The Santa Maria a Poneta farming estate stretches over a surface area of approx. 20 hectares located in two different areas of the Commune of Barberino Val d’Elsa. The first one, where the estate is centred, is destined to horse breeding and farm holidays; the other, located on the slope of the small hamlet of Pastine, is covered by a beautiful ilex and oak grove where one can take nice walks or have a picnic. The activity of the farm focuses on breeding of “Sella Italiano” (Italian Saddle) horses in compliance with the regulations imposed by the disciplinary book of the Unione Nazionale Incremento Razze Equine (National Union for Increasing Horse Breeds); the foals born each year are bred and then trained for the sports discipline that best suits their lineage.

Our mares have already given birth to many foals which have stood out in hurdle races and in the complete equitation contest; one above all, the horse named Vinsanto, declared to be a probable Olympic competitor at the Athens Olympics in 2004 in the complete contest. The stallion Artico, active on the estate, has participated in the prestigious International Horse Show Contest in Piazza di Siena, confirming to be an excellent jumper.
We will be pleased to accompany our guests to see the newborns take their first steps or follow the first, exciting stages of breaking-in and mounted training. Should our guests be interested in riding lessons or trekking, we will gladly recommend the neighbouring specialised centres as we do not offer this type of service.
